Dental, Eye, Natal, Skin C...

DENTAL CARE in Korea is of a high standard. General dentistry, orthodontics and oral surgery are all available as well. Many dentists have studied abroad and speak English.

EYE CARE in Korea is generally good and inexpensive. You can get an eye test in almost every shop that sells glasses. Ophthalmologists can be found in most big hospitals.

When you get your glasses, try them on and make sure the fit is right and that you can see properly. The quality of work is generally very good but mistakes can be made anywhere. You can shop around if you want someone who speaks English.

NATAL CARE has much improved in recent years and high standards of pre-and post-natal care are available, especially in Seoul. This includes private hospital rooms, birthing beds and the ability to deliver your baby in a birthing pool. Some hospitals allow the father to be present at the birth – you may want to check on this with your obstetrician early on. Many male physicians, even some trained abroad, tend to communicate primarily with the father and exclude the mother. However, once the father-to-be explains that both parents must be treated equally, the obstetrician will usually comply. Other expats who have delivered a child in Korea will be happy to share their experiences and knowledge with you if you post a request for information on the forum.

SKIN CARE is an important issue in Korea and you will find skin care clinics everywhere. Some specialise only in aesthetics, while others offer basic dermatological care as well. Clinics or doctors who concentrate more on the medical side of skin care may still be in offices with Skin/VD Treatment signs, but their numbers are shrinking. All the rejuvenating and beautifying treatments are available in the majority of Korea's skin clinics.
