CAVALIA - Where The Horses Rule!

by Cavalia Company, 20/11/2014

Cavalia is a multimedia theatrical production like no other on the planet. It is the brainchild of creator Normand Latourelle – who is the co-founder of famed Cirque du Soleil. Seoul audiences have been raving about the show since opening night. In this concrete jungle that is Korea, Cavalia brings the beauty and serenity of nature on a humongous stage with 50 magnificent horses and 40 riders, acrobats, aerialists, dancers and musicians.

Cavalia tells and celebrates the inspiring story of the age-old relationship between humans and horses.

In Cavalia, the horses are a pretext to push the limit of live performance.  Cavalia presents a new form of performing arts.  By integrating equestrian arts into the world of modern performing arts, the creators have pushed the limit of what a stage could offer.

To give life to this extraordinary adventure, Cavalia created a gigantic stage of 50 meters in length, equivalent to that of an Olympic-size swimming pool. Some 2,500 tons of rock, earth and sand are trucked in and then sculpted to create the vast space of freedom where humans and horses come to play in complicity.
There was not structure in the world that could house a stage that big. So Cavalia had to custom design the largest touring theatre in the world. The White Big Top, raised at Jamsil Sports Complex, peaks at 35 meters, equivalent to a ten-story building. 6,630 square meters of canvas were used to create the White Big Top, which spans more than 2,440 square meters.

In Cavalia, the horses cavort with the many artists in front of a constantly changing digital background projected onto a 60 metre-wide screen. Each image projected on the immense cyclorama was first hand-painted and then finalized by graphic designers. To project these breathtaking backdrops, Cavalia uses 20 projectors as powerful as those illuminating the grandest movie theater screens. This method of set design is unique to Cavalia and allows the audience to be immersed into dream-like environments.
